October Message from Exalted RulerIt’s official, Fall has arrived. For the majority of our members the end of the summer is pack up, close down, head home, get the kids back in school and reflect on what a great summer this has been and start thinking and planning for next season. But, for many of our fellow members who volunteer when needed or serve on our various committees the Fall season means charitable and community programs kick into full swing. Starting with the Run for the Fallen our volunteer members were tremendous ambassadors’ of our Lodge. Making and bagging over 100 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches’ the day before the race and serving a complete breakfast with snack packs to the runners and support group starting at 5:30am in the morning, which happen to be the first day of the Irish Fall Festival, which was very successful because of the efforts of so many tireless volunteers. To those Volunteers, on behalf of all your fellow members, “Thank You”. The lodge kicked off October with a well attended dedication and remembrance ceremony on October 2nd at our Memorial Garden on the New Jersey Avenue side of the Lodge. On October 7th our Veterans Committee will be hosting The Annual “Hood Murphy Memorial Golf Tournament at WILDWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB 11:30am Registration and Lunch with a 12:30 PM Shotgun Start. Proceeds will enable us to assist Veterans of the Armed Forces and their families in the tri-state area (NJ, DE, PA). Thursday the 13th , will be the first Lodge meeting this month. We have the honor of hosting our District Deputy and representative of the Grand Exalted Ruler, Rick Pennestri and our District Vice President, George McMahon as well as other State Officers and Grand Lodge representatives‘. On Saturday, the 22nd we will be Initiating over 100 new members. AMAZING Another date to remember will be Saturday, October 29th where Ghouls and Goblins of all ages can enjoy a safe and happy night of “Trunk and Treating” up and down Old New Jersey Avenue and then step into the Scariest Haunted House outside of Transylvania on the Lodges’ Patio, sponsored by our Youth Committee. While all this activity is taking place on the street and patio, inside our members 2016 Costume Party will be swinging into high gear. There will be awards for Best Costumes, Best Couple and Best Group as well as many other spooky goings on. So, It’s official, Fall has arrived. But not the off season… I hope most of you have checked out the activities and fund raising efforts of our Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge #1896. I truly hope all our members take as much pride in our Lodge and all the wonderful people we call fellow Greater Wildwood Elks as much as I do. Jim
